Ovingham Parish Council - March 2022 Update
1.A wooden gate and fencing have been put in place at the entrance to the Village Green to prevent vehicle access onto the green and Vicarage Haugh.
2.The ivy growing on the church boundary wall and closed churchyard wall has been removed.
3.The left hand side stone pillar at the entrance to Ovingham Cemetery has been hit by a vehicle and badly damaged. Hazard tape and cones have been put in place and signage warning of unstable structure. Stone mason has inspected and confirmed it is stable, work will be carried out ASAP to repair the damage.
4. The footpath from Piper Road to the Hermitage has been cleared of all debris, mud and encroaching grass and weed.
NCC have been thanked and praised for their work.
5. Speed Survey is being carried out this week.
The position of the survey equipment at all three entrances is decided by NCC not the Parish Council, they have rules to follow as to the exact position.
Data collected from the survey will hopefully be available towards the end of April.
6. Parish Councillors met with NCC Highways to discuss the completion of the Chalet Path. Concerns were raised in relation to the deterioration of the road next to the path and vehicles now driving onto the grass verge as they turn the dangerous corner. It was pointed out just how dangerous this section of the road was for pedestrians.
NCC to follow up the relaying of the BT cable which will then enable them to complete the path with supporting kerb.
6. The village is looking very tidy thanks to volunteers who pick up litter/remove large items left lying on the riverbank and roadside/cut back brambles and branches overhanging footpaths. This is being carried out on a regular basis, especially in the areas of Gallowhill Road, Wylam Road and the Playing Fields.
A thank you also, to those residents who help me look after the flowering tubs and gardens around the village which help to make the village look so attractive.
7.Village Appraisal Questionnaires have now been collated, an Action Plan will be put in place in the next few weeks.
A huge thank you to all the residents who took the time to complete, putting forward their comments and suggestions for solutions to issues raised.
