Traffic Speed through the Village - Background Information and Update
Traffic speeding isues go back several years, the Parish Council have had numerous conversations with NCC Highways regarding possible measures to reduce speeds on Castle View, Horsley Road and the West Road heading towards Ovington. Inter-active 30mph signs have been in place for some considerable time at these locations which are the main entrance points to the village.
We have also discussed moving the 30mph signage further out from the village but NCC Highways have a policy which allows this ONLY if residential housing directly borders the section of road in question. We FAIL on that score.
In the last 8 years NCC have conducted 3 formal speed surveys on the 3 above mentioned roads, the last one being in February 2019. The outcome being , recorded speeds did not meet the NCC criteria for a blanket 20 mph speed limit in the village.
However the Parish Council have received further complaints related to speeding and are meeting with Highways in next 2 weeks to discuss further and ask if it is posssible to carry out another speed survey to obtain updated data information.
Will keep you all informed of progress being made with request for a speed survey.
