Ovingham Parish Council

Setting up a Climate Change Awareness Campaign

Introduction

The Council recognises the need to address climate change at global, national, county, local and personal levels and to this end support the aims of the County Council Climate Change Action Plan 2021-23.

At our meeting in September it was agreed that we would facilitate the establishment of a local Climate Change Awareness Campaign (CCAC) which will promote and support the goals of Priority Action Area 2 – Engagement and Partnership, of the NCC Plan.

Since then, councillors have participated in meetings with representatives of the NCC Climate Change group which have confirmed, that for the NCC Plan to be successful, town and parish councils need to promote the benefits in their own communities.

Our Climate Change Awareness Campaign (CCAC)

We are aware that many in our community are either already taking their own actions, or would like to do so, and our proposed aim would be to highlight the various ways residents can make their own contribution to the campaign depending on their circumstances.

CCAC Strategy

We aim to facilitate the establishment of a CCAC strategy group in Ovingham. This would not be a formal Council sub-group, but we would have representation within the group, which would include members from village organisations, the church, the middle and first schools, farmers, and other interested individuals. We would envisage a membership of around ten persons.

Terms of reference will be mutually agreed when the Group has sufficient initial members. The group will be our Community Climate Change Champions.

We are seeking volunteers to join the strategy group, and Ovingham residents who would like to be involved should contact a parish councillor or simply indicate their interest by email to ovinghamparishcouncil@yahoo.co.uk
