August Parish Council Update
1. A request for a quote for a footpath to be put in place on the boundary between the grassed area and the road in front of Dene Garth was obtained from NCC. Pedestrians at the moment have to walk on the grass or the very busy dangerous stretch of road.
Quote received was £27,000 which we could not fund.
The request has now been placed on our Local Transport Plan for 2022- 23 in the hope that NCC will fund.
2. Resurfacing of the roads in Tyne Gardens, Windsor Crescent, 48 - 74 and the West Road in front of the schools have also been requested on our Local Transport Plan. All three sections of road are in desperate need of repair, potholes having been repaired on a regular basis making the surface so uneven.
3. Speeding was discussed at the July Parish Council meeting. It was pointed out that four speed surveys have now been carried out in Ovingham in recent times and none have produced data that satisfied NCC criteria to impose a 20mph speed limit.
The concerns raised have been brought to the attention of our Local Councillor Holly Waddell and further discussion will take place at the September meeting.
4. Dog Notices are to be put in place in the Playing Fields, pointing out dog owners may exercise their dogs on all areas of the field, other than the football pitches and children’s play areas.
The Parish council would appreciate if this is acheived by having dogs on a lead.
Dog faeces to be collected and deposited in the bins at the entrances to the field.
Notice will also mention the collection of litter.
A 240ltr. waste bin attached to a locking post is to be installed on the Play Area this will be emptied on a weekly basis by NCC. An annual fee to be charged for this service.
Volunteer residents do daily litter picks and we are so grateful for this, hopefully once the large bin is in place they won`t have so many bottles and cans to pick up.
5. It is that time of year again and this year in particular has seen rapid growth of tree branches, shrubs, plants and weeds which are causing many footpaths in the village to be obstructed and look very untidy.
Please can we all check the perimeter of our properties and ensure footpaths are not causing an obstruction to users.
If necessary - prune back overhanging branches and shrubs
- remove weeds and plants growing on the footpaths
Let us all play our part in keeping the village tidy, improving the appearance and keeping footpaths free from obstruction for all users.
Thank you
Doreen Jordon - Chair of Parish Council.
