Ovingham Joint Burial Committee
Closure of Ovingham Cemetery Lodge
On Tuesday 20th February 2024, the Ovingham Joint Burial Committee (OJBC) held an Extra Ordinary Meeting. The purpose of this meeting was to consider the future viability of the Cemetery Lodge in the light of the significant and costly repairs to the Lodge that would now be required in order for the building to meet the standard stipulated in the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985.
OJBC’s remit is to manage and maintain Ovingham Cemetery. The greater part of the Committee’s budget for this important work is public money, raised from Council Taxpayers in the parishes of Wylam, Ovingham, Ovington and Horsley, the Committee’s constituent parish councils.
The Committee, having regard to its current and likely future financial resources, the high cost of necessary and ongoing repairs to the Lodge and the prudent and correct use of public money, resolved to close the Lodge.
