What is the Annual Parish Meeting?

The Local Government Act states that every parish must hold an annual parish meeting between 1 March and 1 June and proceedings must not begin before 6pm.  The Agenda is standard to give a report on the business of the last twelve months.

Belsay Annual Parish Meeting is held in May.  It is not a Parish Council Meeting and it is therefore not conducted in the same way or governed by the same rules as the parish council meeting.  The Chair (or if absent Vice Chair) must preside and gives a report on the Parish Council's activities over the last year.  There may be a report from the County Councillor or other local representatives and groups too.  Parishioners can ask questions and make statements about local matters during the meeting and can pass resolutions, although they do not bind the Parish Council.

Parish Notice Board

The Parish Council's notice board is located outside Belsay Post Office, and we always welcome items for inclusion. belsayparishcouncil@hotmail.co.uk
