Rennington Parish Council stands in support and solidarity with the people of Ukraine, strongly condemning the multiple attacks and violations of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
What can we, as a community, do?
Northumbrians, like the rest of the country have been extremely generous in donating food and other supplies. These goods have to be sorted and exported to the neighbouring countries to help the refugees, which is both time consuming and expensive, @ £2,000 per lorry! Donating money to the Disasters Emergency Committee ensures that the help that’s needed can be purchased locally to Ukraine and be delivered more quickly.
Donate to the Disasters Emergency Committee - a grouping of 15 leading UK aid charities that raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of crisis overseas. Here's a link to their website DEC.
Support local events such as the Walk of Solidarity in Alnwick led by the Duke & Duchess of Northumberland at 1.30pm on Sunday 13th March - see here for details.
Sponsor a Ukrainian refugee - the government is planning to introduce a new scheme for communities, private sponsors and local authorities to bring people with no ties to the UK - see here.
